Such Great Heights

My good friend Emily recently called my attention to these amazing Finsk shoes (pictured above) on Facebook and I was rendered utterly speechless when she did. I've always been a fan of Finsk's in-sane architectural platforms, seen many-a-time on blogger Bryan Boy, but these sandals take my admiration to another level. Where to begin? The colors are fantastic– blocked black and beige with kicks of mint green– and the geometry of the shoes is, excuse my Zoe, BA-NANAS. I especially love the triangle on the bottom front that can only be seen when the shoes are looked at head-on. And, perhaps most of all– brace yourself for an annoying fashion-lover moment here– I love that, for me, these and other Fisk creations truly exemplify how fashion is art. Alright, I'll give you a moment to roll your eyes...

Are you finished? Thank you. But really. How can you argue against the idea when seeing things like this:

Rodarte
And this:
Viktor & Rolf
And this:
Alexander McQueen

Since The Devil Wears Prada just happened to be playing on TV the other night, I can't help but pull this quote from Stanley Tucci's character:

"Don't you know that you are working at the place that published some of the greatest artists of the century? Halston, Lagerfeld, de la Renta. And what they did, what they created was greater than art because you live your life in it."

As much as you can argue the authenticity of the book or cheesiness of the movie, don't the words just strike you as the tinsiest bit legit? I mean, one of the Top 10 exhibitions at the Met of all time (Alexander McQueen's Savage Beauty) featured items that you could all wear.

How's that for a little fashion-for-thought?
